CD Projekt Red is setting a lofty goal for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game with the studio aiming to match its quality with Red Dead Redemption 2. CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński made the statement after being asked what the studio had learned from the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Cyberpunk 2077 is the massive follow-up to CD Projekt Red’s last critically-acclaimed open world RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Cyberpunk 2077 will see the studio tackle a very different universe, however, exchanging fantasy monsters and swordplay with a futuristic cyberpunk dystopia The game was first revealed in 2013, and does not currently have a confirmed release date. It appears that its creators have high standards when it comes to the game’s quality.

For reference, Red Dead Redemption 2 earned a 97 on Metacritic on release, while The Witcher 3 currently has a Metacritic score of 92. Kiciński explained that “quality is of paramount importance” and that CD Projekt Red strives “to publish games which are as refined as Red Dead Rdemption 2, and recent Rockstar releases in general.”

He added that gamers “tend to focus more and more on hit releases.”

Predictably, Kiciński also played coy about where Cyberpunk 2077 is in terms of its development, something that CD Projekt Red has been doing since the game was first announced – although the developer did allow a select few to go hands-on with the title earlier this summer, indicating that the title is making some heady progress. Kiciński stated that CD Projekt Red is not currently planning to make any announcements, but that fans should expect “further content.”
